Meet Olivia!

What are some of your favorite things about being part of AC?
I love the intergenerational community that is formed. So much knowledge and joy and perspective is shared in all directions. I love living on Greens island, the way the light comes through the trees in the evenings and waking up to Lobsterpeople’s radios. I love rowing in the early hours both in silence and in song. I love the sweet evening breezes we catch out on Penobscot Bay gliding home from a day of rowing and sailing and lunch eating and swimming and rock hopping.

How long have you been involved with AC?
I became involved with AC in 2022 after meeting and working with Arista in Baja, Mexico for NOLS.

Have you had any other sailing/rowing experience?
Rowing was relatively new to me with AC, which has been such a gift to learn. But I grew up sailing on the Chesapeake, the Miles River to be precise, and now teach expeditionary sailing in Mexico for NOLS part of the year.

Where do you currently live?
Santa Fe, New Mexico

What are some things you do in your professional life or study beyond AC?
When I’m not teaching sailing/leadership/outdoor living for NOLS, I make art! I like making things with my hands. I use birch bark, beads, leather, shells, paper, paints…usually it turns into jewelry or books. Additionally I work at our local ski mountain and farmer’s market here in Santa Fe.

What are your current hobbies?
Stars and space! I am currently loving learning about cosmology and observational astronomy. I also enjoy rock climbing and doggie walking and learning about plants.

If you could wake up with a new skill tomorrow, what would it be?
Playing the fiddle! Hopefully the AC community can help with that!

An animal you feel a kinship with?

Doggies or seals (aka Slippery dogs)

Favorite meal?
Green curry with tofu

Favorite song to sing while rowing?
Bring a little water Sylvie!
